Day 1:
The children had a fantastic fist day at Marrick Priory Outdoor Education Centre. After a thankfully uneventful journey, the children arrived full of excitement and ready to begin. They had a quick lunch and welcome talk then undertook their first and possibly most challenging task of the week… making their own beds! Surprisingly, they took to this challenge with great enthusiasm and were quickly heading out for their first main activity. Throughout the visit, the children work in one of three groups. One their first day, each group took part in a mix of activities including: Rock Climbing, Abseiling, High Ropes, Zip Lining and Archery. After all the exercise and excitement, the children enjoyed a well-earned rest and some free time before their evening meal and then headed back out for a night walk and star gazing. Finally, it was time for PJ’s and slippers and even a quick game of bingo as per residential tradition before bed and a well-earned rest!
Day 2:
On day two of our visit to Marrick Priory, the children were up bright and early, ready to take on today’s challenges. After a big breakfast, the children were eager to get started and were soon off out on their first activity – canoeing or the dreaded zipwire. The children had a great time testing their skills and in some cases, also conquering their fears! It was a quick lunch back at the Centre before the children headed back out again for more activities from the low ropes course to archery. Once everyone had made it back to Marrick, it was time for a well-earned rest and much needed showers. Everyone greatly enjoyed their evening meal after their busy schedule of activities and finished off their evening roasting marshmallows on the camp fire.
Day 3:On the final day of our visit to Marrick Priory, the children had an early start helping each other to pack up their cases and tidy up their rooms. Once everyone was ready, they had another hearty breakfast before heading out for their final day of activities. After the wind had died down slightly, the children had great fun undertaking their final challenges of: rock climbing, abseiling, archery, the high ropes and the leap of faith. Everyone showed a solid determination and a greatly improved confidence in their own abilities with many children trying out activities that they wouldn’t have even considered earlier in their visit. There was just enough time for a quick lunch before saying goodbye to Marrick Priory for the final time and heading off to the bus to return home. A huge well done to all the children who took part in the visit. They have all been absolute superstars throughout and we very much hope everyone will take away some very special memories!
